Lesson Transcript

Hi everyone, this is Selin and welcome to your Turkish Weekly Words. What we will learn today, let’s find out together because it’s a surprise for me as usual. So let’s go.
Hygiene Actions. Oh, it sounds clean.
1. banyo yapmak "to bathe"
Bathe, um well for me, I bathe every day. Every single morning.
“I bathe every morning.” So in Turkish, we say, Her sabah banyo yaparım.
2. fırçalamak "to brush"
Brush means fırçalamak but we don’t actually use it without the noun, teeth or tooth. That’s why I want to teach you with the noun like tooth or teeth.
Diş is “tooth” and fırçalamak is “brush”. So brushing your teeth means, dişlerinizifırçalamak.
"You have to brush your teeth after every meal." Do you do that?
Her yemekten sonra dişlerinizi fırçalamalısınız.
Her yemekten sonra dişlerinizi fırçalamalısınız.
"You have to brush your teeth after every meal."
3. yıkamak "to wash"
If you just say wash, then, there are like many, many ways to use that word, right. I mean washing your clothes or washing the dishes. So it’s same in Turkey. I mean, if you don’t use the noun, if you don’t say what are you washing, we cannot understand your action because it’s like a hygiene action. I think it’s about washing your body.
Vücudunuzu yıkamak. Vücudunuzu is body. Vücudunuzu yıkamak is washing your body.
If you want to ask your friend – don’t ask everyone, okay. Just close friend,
“Which body soap are you using to wash your body?” hangi vücud şampuanını kullanıyorsunuz. Vücudunuzu yıkamak için hangi vücud şampuanını kullanıyorsunuz.
4. taramak "to comb"
I think it’s better to add like the noun hair before taramak. So, we can understand you mean like, oh, like, combing the hair like that. So, saçını taramak. Saç basically means “hair”. Brushing the hair and combing, we only use this verb, only one. So you can use for both.
"If you use conditioner, then you can smoothly comb your hair."
Eğer saç kremi kullanırsan saçını kolayca tarayabilirsin.
If you want to say it to someone like in a more formal way I mean, then you should say,
Eğer saç kremi kullanırsan saçını kolayca tarayabilirsin.Eğer saç kremi kullanırsan saçını kolayca tarayabilirsin.
We say saç kremi for “conditioner” and “smoothly”, you can use the word kolayca. Like that.
I like to brush my hair. Yes, it’s so cute right? Let’s get back to work.
5. tıraş olmak "to shave"
"Men shave every morning before they go to work." Erkekler işe gitmeden önce her sabah tıraş olurlar.
And this is the end of our lesson. I hope you guys enjoyed it and I hope I see you in the next video. If you want to watch more videos, then please visit turkishclass101.com, bye bye.
It’s mine. So cute, right? I actually broke it. Like there was a mirror here, but now it’s only a brush.
