Okay, let's look at the dialogue.
When I'm reading the dialogue
I want you to find the phrases I just taught you, okay?
Let's start.
Adım Ahmet Şık
Affedersiniz, tekrar edebilir misiniz?
Adım Ahmet Şık
My name is Ahmet Şık.
Excuse me, can you repeat?
My name is Ahmet Şık.
Do you see our phrase here?
Tekrar edebilir misiniz?
Okay, now let's look at the sentence pattern
and see how we can make these type of sentences by ourselves
okay?
First, we put
Affedersiniz.
Affedersiniz means excuse me
okay?
excuse me
Normally, as you know, in Turkish, we have formal and informal you.
In this case, since we use these sentences in a more formal situation
we would use the formal version of affedersiniz
okay?
And the informal version is affedersin without the iz part at the end, okay?
Oops, sorry, this part.
In this case, we say affedersiniz.
And we add our verb phrase here, okay?
One of these.
And we add ""e"" or ""a"" bilir misiniz?
e or ""a"" bilir misiniz?
So, this e/a bilir misiniz part means can you
okay?
Can you?
e ""a"" bilir misiniz?
Why do we use either e or a?
Can you guess?
Yes.
It is because the vowel harmony rules in Turkish
okay?
We use verb phrase then this part
okay?
And we have to take out the mekmak part
from the
let me show it like this.
This is a general rule.
Before adding any suffix to a Turkish verb,
you have to take out this mek or mak part of the verb.
This is the dictionary form, okay?
So, you take the mek or mak out,
you add the phrase, then you add ""e"" or ""a"" bilir misiniz?
And this means excuse me, can you blah blah blah
okay?
Not that hard, right?
Okay
now let's see some examples.
Afedersiniz
daha yavaş konuşabilir misiniz?
Excuse me, can you speak more slowly?
Or
afedersiniz
daha yüksek sesle konuşabilir misiniz?
Excuse me,
can you speak louder?
Afedersiniz, bunu yazabilir misiniz?
Excuse me, can you write that down?
Okay, do you see the pattern?
First, we say afedersiniz
then we have our verb phrase in this case.
Let's see, let's use another marker.
For example
daha yavaş konuşmak,
daha yüksek sesle konuşmak
yazmak.
And do you see our pattern here?
abilir misiniz
abilir misiniz
abilir misiniz
And let's look at our dialogue for the pattern.
ebilir misiniz
