| In this lesson, we'll cover an extremely important phrase: "Where is the toilet?" |
| In Turkish, "Where is the toilet?" is Tuvalet nerede? Let's break it down. Tu-va-let ne-re-de? And once more, Tuvalet nerede? |
| Let's look at the components. The first word, Tuvalet, means "toilet." Tu-va-let. Tuvalet. This is followed by Nerede, which in Turkish means "where is." Ne-re-de. Nerede. |
| A formal way to ask "Where can I find the bathroom?" is Banyo nerede acaba? Let's break it down. Ban-yo ne-re-de a-ca-ba? Once more, Banyo nerede acaba? |
| The first word, Banyo, means "bathroom." Banyo. Banyo. After that is Nerede, which again means "where." Nerede. Acaba literally means "I wonder." If you use it in question sentences, it gives extra polite impression to people. Acaba. Acaba. |
| All together, that's Banyo nerede acaba? Banyo nerede acaba? |
| If you are looking for the ladies' room, the phrase is Bayanlar tuvaleti nerede acaba? Ba-yan-lar tu-va-le-ti ne-re-de a-ca-ba? Bayanlar tuvaleti nerede acaba? |
| Bayanlar means "ladies'." Ba-yan-lar. Bayanlar. Next is Tuvaleti, a form of the word for "toilet." Tu-va-le-ti. Tuvaleti. And last, we have Nerede, which again means "where is." Ne-re-de. Nerede. After that, we have Acaba again. As you'll remember, it means "I wonder." |
| All together, that's Ba-yan-lar tu-va-le-ti ne-re-de a-ca-ba? Bayanlar tuvaleti nerede acaba? |
| If you are looking for the men's room, the equivalent phrase is is Erkekler tuvaleti nerede acaba? Er-kek-ler tu-va-le-ti ne-re-de a-ca-ba? Erkekler tuvaleti nerede acaba? |
| Erkekler means "men's." Er-kek-ler. Erkekler. Just replace the word Banyanlar, or "ladies'" with Erkekler, or "men's." Er-kek-ler tu-va-le-ti ne-re-de a-ca-ba? Erkekler tuvaleti nerede acaba? |
| Let's hear both of the sentences one more time. Bayanlar tuvaleti nerede acaba? and Erkekler tuvaleti nerede acaba? |
| The phrase Tuvalet nerede? sounds a little less informal. So, you can make it polite by adding Acaba at the end of the sentence. Tuvalet nerede acaba? Tu-va-let ne-re-de a-ca-ba? |
| Now, when you finally get to the bathroom, there may be one last hurdle. In some instances, only Turkish words are written on the doors. What to do? What to do? |
| As we've seen above, the word for "men" is Erkekler. And for "women" you'll see either Kadınlar or Bayanlar. |
| Let us hear it once more. The word for "men" is Erkekler. Er-kek-ler. Erkekler. Erkekler. The word for "woman" is Kadınlar. Ka-dın-lar. Kadınlar. Or, Bayanlar. Ba-yan-lar. Bayanlar. |
| When you're travelling, there may not be many public bathrooms for tourists to use. This means your best option is to stop at either a café or a restaurant to use the bathrooms. Understandably, café owners sometimes aren't too keen on having people stop in just to use their bathroom. But, most likely, since you are a tourist, they will welcome you and let you use the toilet. So, to be polite, you might want to buy a bottle of water or order a coffee before asking Tuvalet nerede acaba? |

"Lezzetli" can only be used for things that you can eat or drink, "nefis" can be used a great view, a beautiful song or a tasty dish. Using "delicious" as a translation for "nefis" is quite accurate though, since it is mostly used to describe great food!

Hello- I noticed on a different "Turkish Word of the Day" site the word "nefis", which they describe as meaning "delicious". Using your dictionary, however, the word for delicious is "lezzetli". In fact, your dictionary doesn't recognize "nefis" at all.
Can you clarify this for me?

It will sound a bit off to a native speaker to start that sentence with "lütfen" but you will get the message across and will sound polite 😄 Starting with "Affedersiniz" would be more appropriate.
