Turkish Survival Phrases, Lesson 46: "How do you eat this Turkish food?"
In Turkey, there are many delicious dishes! We have already covered how to order them, but now it's time to learn how to eat them! That is not always so obvious. In this lesson, we'll learn how to ask, "How do you eat this?"
In Turkish, "How do you eat this?" is Bunu nasıl yiyorsunuz? Let's break it down: Bu-nu na-sıl yi-yor-su-nuz? Once more, Bunu nasıl yiyorsunuz?
The first word, Bunu, means "this one." Bu-nu. Bunu. Then we have Nasıl, which means "how." Na-sıl. Nasıl. Then you have Yiyiyorsunuz, which is a form of the word for "to eat." Yi-yi-yor-su-nuz. Yiyiyorsunuz.
Literally, this means "How do you eat this one?" While most Turkish dishes are quite straightforward, home cooking can get you more complicated dishes. Use this question when in doubt: Bu-nu na-sıl yi-yi-yor-su-nuz? Bunu nasıl yiyorsunuz?
Turkish food has different variations depending on the region. And while some of them are very healthy, some might be quite heavy. But in the end, they are all very delicious. However, if you are worried about calories, we have a very useful phrase for you.
The question "Is this food heavy?" in Turkish is Bu yemek ağır mı? Let's break it down: Bu ye-mek a-ğır mı? Once more, Bu yemek ağır mı?
The first word, Bu, means "this," and Yemek means "food". So, they become Bu yemek, "this food." Altogether: Bu ye-mek. Bu yemek. Next we have Ağır mı, which means "is it heavy?" remember if we add Mı at the end of the sentence or word, we obtain the question form of it. A-ğır mı. Ağır mı.
All together, it becomes Bu ye-mek a-ğır mı? Bu yemek ağır mı? "Is this food heavy?"

Outro

You have a few seconds before I give you the answer. So, Iyi şanslar, which means "good luck" in Turkish.
